Not many people know this, but this weekend, there’s a holiday that families need to start taking advantage of. August 7th marks National Play Outside Day! TheSoul Publishing’s popular 5 Minute Crafts YouTube channel shares a video of fun ideas for you and the family to try as you celebrate this weekend. Below are couple of recommendations to start:
- Enjoy some bubble blowing fun with the kids by cutting the bottom of a water bottle, slipping an old sock over the hole and dipping it into soapy water. As you blow through the mouthpiece watch a long trail of bubbles follow!
- A fun game of ping-pong shooting never hurt anybody! Try this game by cutting the bottom of a paper cup and the bottom of a latex balloon. Next, tie the balloon and attach the bottom to cover the hole of the paper cup. Insert the ping-pong ball in the cup, pull back the balloon, and watch the ball shoot out!
- DIY obstacle courses are a great way to get the family into physical activities! This can be as creative and as difficult as you like!

Create decorative Frisbees by hot gluing two paper plates together and cutting out the center. This doubles as an art activity and an outdoor activity for the whole family to enjoy!
If it’s too hot to play outside during the day, enjoy some outdoor fun without the sun with light sabors! Simply laminate colored cellophane and roll it up, then add a mini flashlight on one end, and cover the top with more cellophane.
